Amir Ron

Born in Kibbutz Yehiam in 1973,
lives and works in Tel Aviv.

Ron Amir is a stills and video photographer. Some 12 years ago he started photographing in Jisr az-Zarqa, an Israeli Arab settlement ranked at the bottom of the Israeli socio-economic scale. Through the lens of Amir's camera, crowded and derelict Jisr az-Zarqa becomes colorful and fictional, like Gabriel García Márquez's Macondo.

Amir operates as an anthropologist who nests at the photography site, studies it and its inhabitants, and develops with his subjects a relationship that is free from the boundaries prescribed by political reality. The portraits he captures through the camera lens attest to Amir's sensitivity and attentiveness to his subjects, figures and landscapes, and the space formed between him and them.
