Hillel Roman

Hillel Roman was born in Los Angeles in 1975,
lives and works in Tel Aviv.

Hillel Roman's works are severe looking and meticulously executed. Some are arranged as series of products or organized around a particular concept. They explore the gap between the real and the metaphorical, giving it a beautiful and sensual representation. Thus for instance the telescope, which Roman had built several years ago by following instructions he found on the Internet, allows the viewers to the see what eludes the eye, but also uncovers the strangeness of the universe. The tension between darkness and light, between doubt and lack of knowledge and knowledge, accompanies Roman's works from his very first exhibition "Darkling", and continues to shadow it with images that emerge from the black charcoal, in the title of his Master's Degree exhibition in London-"A Well Formulated Problem", and in the spectacular object he built-the telescope.
